Ask This, Not That
The premise is simple: The quality of the answers we get in life are really determined by the quality of the questions we ask. No matter what we face, all the problems we have really come from living in a world too small.
The world I’m referring to is not the physical world but the mental world. We have to expand our world, and I believe that we expand our world and our thinking by asking expansive questions.
For example, when faced with unfortunate circumstances, many people ask: Why me? This perpetuates a victim mentality that does not serve us. To get the most from any situation, we need to ask questions more along the lines of: What are the benefits I can get from this experience?
We must frame the questions in a way that will not constrict possibilities or limit what’s possible. Negative, defeatist questions downplay our natural gifts and capabilities.
Try to ask questions like:
What is this experience calling me to be and express?
How can I use the talents that I have?
Looking at it from where I am, how is it that I can transcend this experience to embrace a new possibility for my life?
How can I fulfill what I want or desire in my life experiences?
Who are the others who have done what I would like to do, and how did they do it?
